Tzuby's Kids: Building a Brighter Future for Romania's Children

Tzuby’s Kids was founded in 2015 in response to an urgent need. Tens of thousands of children were trapped within Romania’s child protection system. Foster care was operating at the edge of legality, there were no clear timelines for reintegrating children into their biological families, and the declaration of adoptability was often delayed or entirely neglected.

Over the years, Tzuby’s Kids has actively contributed to legislative changes and improvements to the child protection system. Today, the organization focuses its efforts on supporting the integration of children into adoptive and foster families.

One of the primary reasons for the failure of family integrations is the insufficient preparation of parents and the lack of adequate or accessible professional support. Through specialized training, support groups, and therapeutic camps, Tzuby’s Kids is on a mission to develop strong parents who can fulfill their roles with competence and love.

Our ultimate goal is encapsulated in the vision: “Strong Parents. Happy Children.” Together, we are building a better future for Romania’s children.

When I decided to adopt a child, I had no idea what the adoption process entailed, and I didn’t know anyone who had gone through a similar experience. While searching for information online, I discovered Tzuby’s Kids Association and decided to attend an information session. I had so many questions on my mind: Am I ‘eligible’ to adopt, given that I have a disability? Can we adopt if we already have biological children? How many rooms do we need? At that session, not only did I receive clear answers to all my questions, but I also realized that there is a community of people who can support me throughout this journey. The Tzuby's Kids community has become a constant source of support for my wife and me – we have met many times with other adoptive parents in support groups and therapeutic camps, where we have shared thoughts, fears, and joys together.

Although we have two biological children, the support, information, and especially the connections with other parents we experienced in Tzuby’s Kids camps have greatly helped us on our journey as an adoptive family. It is encouraging for us to learn that other adoptive parents also face challenges, have to manage crises, and go through similar experiences. We relate to these stories, and they fill us with positive energy. Our passion for abandoned children has been with us since our youth, and when our biological children became teenagers, we felt it was time to invest in other souls. Initially, we thought we would adopt one or two children, but in the end, we adopted five – all siblings from the same mother. Now we are a large, joyful, and, of course, noisy family!

We attended the courses offered by Tzuby’s Kids, even volunteered at a camp, and met some adopted children, which helped us better understand their traumas and life stories. We did all this to see if we were truly ready for this journey. We realized that adoption means doing good, caring, and helping a child, so we wanted to adopt more than one. However, at that time, we lived in a studio apartment. With God's help, we committed to preparing ourselves for parenthood over four years and building a house. And that’s exactly what happened – today, we are raising three wonderful children with love in our home
